11 of the world’s most sustainable companies are in Canada

For some companies, keeping things clean and green is paramount, but who’s really scratching their heads heading into 2023? With 11 of the 100 most sustainable companies in Canada right here in Canada, look no further for great examples of good leadership.

“This year’s Global 100 ranking of the world’s most sustainable companies now ranks 19th In 2018, it became clear that the migration was gaining momentum. Sustainability is seriously financially thriving,” they wrote.

Schnitzer Steel Industries Inc. of Portland, Oregon, took first place, while engineering giant Stantec Inc. of Edmonton, Alberta tied for seventh with French company Schneider Electric SE. !

To create the 2023 list, Corporate Knights evaluated over 6,000 public companies. All of these companies have revenues exceeding US$1 billion.

Companies were then scored on metrics such as carbon productivity, revenue from “clean” products and services, and even the ratio of CEO to average employee wages (just to name a few).

“50% of the weight assigned to sustainable returns and sustainable investments,” they explained. “Nine of the indicators have fixed weights. The rest are weighted according to each industry’s relative impact on the economy as a whole. After quantitatively analyzing the data from the year, the overall scores for the year were converted to letter grades.”
