Amazon drivers are supposed to drop things off, not take off, but what happened when June Ruckell looked in disbelief at the ring camera from work last Friday? That was exactly it.
Ruckel says he may have seen an Amazon driver stealing his son’s dirt bike from her home on Chester Avenue in Congers.
“I’m like, ‘Oh my God. He’s stealing his bike,'” said Raquel.
The driver, Vito Bellantuono, a 28-year-old from Dutchess County, was seen walking into Ruckel’s backyard from a neighbor’s property and walking with his bike to an Amazon truck.
“I was like, ‘Oh my god, what should I do?’
The homeowner called Clarkstown police and caught up with Bellantuno about 400 meters away.
Police say the bike was found in an Amazon truck and returned.
Raquel and her husband, Ed, were not charged with theft, but police charged Bellantuono with DUI, DUI and driving while under the influence of drugs.
The Ruckels say they are sharing their experience publicly as a warning to others.
“Everybody orders from Amazon, which is great for convenience, but we have to be more careful.
News 12 reached out to Amazon for comment but did not hear back.
