A man in New Jersey received a strange Amazon delivery. That’s exactly what he paid for, plus his package contained an unexpected item, so we called the police.
Jason Dwyer’s order was very simple. A box of raisins. It arrived on time, but contained something the customer hadn’t ordered, leaving the West New York man speechless after finding it.
It had a sharp kitchen knife stuck in it and was a risk to anyone who picked it up.
“If your purpose is to scare someone, you might have nailed it,” Dwyer told NBC New York. “Weird, still weird.”
Surveillance video from the afternoon of Friday, January 6, showed an Amazon driver dropping Dwyer’s order in the lobby. The worker didn’t seem to notice anything wrong with one of the packages.
A short while later, Dwyer received a photo from Amazon confirming that the order had been delivered. If you look closely at that picture, you can see the knife’s blue handle sticking out from the left side of the package. One of Dwyer’s neighbors in the building picked up the package to see if it belonged to them.
“I happened to pick up Jason’s box,” said neighbor Chris Detrizio. “Don’t make sense. I don’t understand. You got me.”
No one was hurt by the 8-inch knife Dwyer said. Dwyer filed a police report with the Western New York State Police Department and contacted Amazon to find out how Blade got there.
“It may sound like a joke, but it’s not,” he said.
In a statement, an Amazon spokesperson said, “We take these matters seriously and have reached out to our customers to apologize for this incident. We are working with all parties involved to ensure that any We are determining what happened,” he said.
