Evansville, Indiana (WFIE) – Released body camera footage thursday night shoot A Walmart on the west side of Evansville provides a rough timeline of what happened.
At 9:59 pm on Thursday, I got a call from the shooter at that Walmart.
“We have a shooter at a Walmart in the West,” said the 911 caller.
Multiple 911 callers were able to identify and provide a description of the suspect, Ronald Moseley II, according to police.
“[There were] People in the store who said there were gunshots and people were being shot,” said Evansville Police Sergeant. Anna Gray.
The main call to central dispatch described the first event that occurred.
“He was shooting people in the break room,” said another 911 caller.
According to police, officers arrived at the scene by 10:04 p.m. and quickly broke in.
“The response to an active shooter situation is for officers to get in quickly, find the shooter and stop him in the shortest possible time,” Sgt. Gray said.
Released footage from that night shows officers navigating the store to find the shooter. was held.
The first of them occurred outside the electronics exit at the back of the store.
From internal body camera footage, officers can be heard heading in the direction of the gunshot.
At another point, the 911 call reveals that the shooter attempted to return to the original scene where the only victim, Amber Cook, was shot.
“Yes, we’re in the back office. He’s right at the door,” one 911 caller relayed to the call center.
Sergeant Gray says the victim was moved from where she was shot, and the shooter, identified as Moseley II, was eventually shot by officers on the left side of the store.
Officials said the suspect was unconscious 12 minutes after the first 911 call. He covered more than 200,000 square feet for officers to stop, police say, ending a brief reign of terror.
The investigation into this shooting has only just begun.
Officials said more than 70 EPD officers, about 20 sheriff’s deputies, and several other law enforcement agencies assisted in the shooting.
