ChatGPT, a new AI sensation, is helping even low-skilled cyber threat actors write code and launch cyberattacks with ease, researchers at security firm Check Point Research said in a blog post Friday. I’m here.

Interest in AI and its uses has skyrocketed since OpenAI released ChatGPT last November.
It’s too early to predict whether ChatGPT will become a new favorite tool for dark web participants, but the cybercriminal community has already shown great interest and this latest trend in generating malicious code are jumping on, researchers say.
Our analysis of several leading underground hacking communities shows that cyber attackers with little or no coding experience can use ChatGPT to create code that can be used for spying, ransomware, and other malicious tasks. It’s clear what you wrote.
Last month, a thread named “ChatGPT – Malware Benefits” appeared on a popular underground hacking forum. The thread’s publisher revealed that it tested ChatGPT to replicate techniques described in research publications on popular malware. He shares the code for a Python-based stealer that searches for common files of his type, copies them to random folders within the Temp folder, which he zips, and uploads to an FTP server. bottom.
He also used Chat GPT to create a simple Java snippet that he modified to run any program, including popular malware families, according to Check Point Research.
In the same month, a threat actor called USDoD posted a Python script. He said this was the first script he created using Open AI. This script can completely encrypt someone’s machine without any user interaction.
UsDoD is not a developer and has limited technical skills, but is a very active member of the underground community. He is involved in various illegal activities, including selling access to compromised companies and stolen databases.
Another notable example of ChatGPT’s use on New Year’s Eve 2022 was the creation of a dark web marketplace script. The main role of marketplaces is to provide a platform for automated trading of stolen accounts and payment cards, malware, and even illicit goods such as drugs and ammunition, with all payments made in cryptocurrencies.
