Raleigh, North Carolina (WNCN) — Construction of the massive Amazon Fulfillment Center in Fayetteville, near Fort Bragg, has completed ahead of schedule.
The Fayetteville facility will employ at least 500 people with a starting salary of $15 an hour.
Amazon told CBS 17 the center is set to open this year, despite Wednesday’s announcement that it has laid off 18,000 people worldwide.
Following recent job cuts, there have been some concerns about the future of Amazon’s 1.3 million-square-foot facility coming to Fayetteville.
“I don’t know why anything has changed, and all I know is that the company will tell me if they do or not.
But Costco’s plans to be right behind Amazon Center have changed. Retailers are no longer in negotiations.
CBS 17 reached out to Costco’s corporate offices in Washington to find out why.
A Costco spokeswoman said: “Management has no comment at this time.
“Whether today or tomorrow, we are optimistic that they will be here one day,” Van Geons said.
As for the Amazon facility in Fayetteville, no specific opening date has yet been set. Despite the rumors, Amazon told CBS17 that it has not started the hiring process for its facility on Bragg Boulevard.
