There’s a new, easier way for Binghamton residents to obtain the city’s blue trash bags. It’s about ordering online.
Under a pilot program detailed by the agency on Tuesday, residents can order 20 large city trash bags through Amazon for $33.60, at a cost of $1.68 per bag.
Binghamton Mayor Jared M. Craham called the initiative “a small but meaningful way to improve the city’s services for residents, especially those who have difficulty leaving their homes.”
Blue bags are still available at local grocery stores, pharmacies and Binghamton City Hall. A bundle of 5 large bags is $6.95, or $1.39 each.

Binghamton’s blue bag vendor, WasteZero, works with over 400 communities across the country to collect their waste. The company’s “pay-as-you-throw” garbage program, like that used in Binghamton, is designed to reduce solid waste in the city and increase recycling.
Binghamton is the first municipality to offer residents the ability to purchase WasteZero bags online.
