The 82-year-old Navy veteran happily retired from his job as a cashier at Walmart last week thanks to TikTok.
Rory McCarty, Warren “Butch,” an older employee from Cumberland, Maryland, after watching TikTok, where an older female Walmart employee said she had to work in the retail chain to earn a living. ” said he was inspired to help Marion.
McCarty’s mission began in December when Marion uploaded a video of her hard work and asked her 277,000 followers if they could help her retire. He then created a GoFundMe page for Marion with the goal of raising $100,000.
McCarty, a small Bushie owner himself, said he was “surprised” to see Marion still working “eight or nine hour shifts.”

“I just wanted something to work and the Lord did the rest,” McCarty told FOX 5.
“I wanted to help this Navy veteran spend the rest of his years and visit his children in Florida,” McCarty explained on his GoFundMe page. “Have him off his feet for eight hours at a time and do what he wants to do that he might not be able to do for financial reasons.”
Marion told the outlet she worked about 30 hours a week at Walmart. He said he retired from General Motors a few years ago, helped care for his ex-wife’s husband before he died, and then got a job at Walmart.
GoFundMe has over 5,700 donors, giving a total of $141,000. This is well above our goal of $100,000.
Marion was thus able to provide Wally World with two weeks’ notice. Last week, local media, loved ones, and veterans gathered in the store’s parking lot to watch McCarty award Marion enough money to never have to go to work again.
“Butch wanted to thank everyone who contributed to this miracle that you gave him. ‘Thank you from the bottom of my heart,'” he said on TikTok of the ceremony. Captioned.
“I feel like a new guy,” Marion told FOX 5.

He said the money would help him pay his bills, allow him to relax, and allow him to spend three weeks in Florida with his daughter and grandchildren. He said he hadn’t hugged them in years.
“A bird out of a cage,” added Marion.
Meanwhile, in November, TikToker raised over $170,000 for older Walmart employees.
