Walmart hides a big secret in the form of a two-story, 260,000-square-foot supercenter.
There are only a few other two-story Walmarts, but Walmart’s largest store in Albany, New York takes scale to new heights.
The store, which opened fully in 2008, initially shocked many shoppers, according to the store manager.
“For most people who come here, it’s a very unique experience,” said Dwayne Hazel. In the statement store manager for store 2152.
“If you catch them on the front end, ask them where their pet supplies are, send them up the escalator, they’ll be surprised.”
The store was originally built in 1994 and was occupied by Sam’s Club on the second floor and Walmart on the second floor.
In 2008, Sam’s Club closed and Walmart decided to use the space and turned it into a full-fledged supercenter.
The stately interior is divided into upper and lower floors.
Go downstairs for a traditional grocery shopping experience.
However, everything is upstairs, including clothing, electronics, and toys.
Two levels can be navigated using escalators. Escalators are provided with cart escalators to facilitate your shopping experience.
Employees say that for years, people came just to marvel at the cart escalators.
“They’ll just come in with a surprise. ‘Oh, look at that,'” said Walmart employee John Foote.
Approximately 360 employees are required to operate the 260,000 square foot space, although more may be required depending on the season.
The busiest months tend to be December and August, when the back-to-school rush begins.
SUNY Albany is just 1 mile from the phenomenal Walmart, with over 17,000 students looking for school and dorm supplies each year during moving season.
Some travelers who visit giant Walmart stores see them as tourist attractions in nature, like one TikToker who shared the inside of the company’s largest store.
TikToker Stephany Gonzalez, who posts with the username @StephGlz90, said she found the store after doing a TikTok search for things to do in Albany.
“We had to experience a shopping cart in an elevator,” says Stephany.
“It was too cool.”
When Stephanie went upstairs to Walmart, she saw her shopping cart lined up next to the escalator.

This saves shoppers up to 30%.
The taste and quality of these products are also unlikely to be compromised.
IRi’s market research, cited by Ramsey Solutions, found that 75% of respondents believe the quality of store-branded merchandise is as good as that of mainstream domestic merchandise.

Plus, free platforms like Ibotta and Fetch allow you to earn cashback on every purchase.
Some of Walmart’s clearance items are particularly good value, such as a $188 kid’s gadget for just $29.
Additionally, Walmart offers job opportunities that offer $110,000 in the first year alone.
