Spokane Valley, Washington — Spokane Valley lawmakers have arrested a man for armed and erratic behavior at a Walmart in Spokane Valley.
An agent responded to reports that a man attempted to jump into a car and set it on fire in a Walmart parking lot on East Broadway Avenue. Witnesses initially said they saw the man armed with a handgun, but the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said it was a torch.
Agents contacted the suspect — 31-year-old James Jennings — who was armed with a large kitchen knife, baseball bat, batting helmet, and pole/bar.
Lawmakers used a taser on Jennings, but it was ineffective because he was wearing heavy clothing. However, the deployment of another taser and the use of pepper spray allowed them to take Jennings into custody.
According to the SCSO, Jennings had a knife wrapped around his upper extremities in an attempt to self-harm. After receiving medical attention at the scene, Jennings was taken to the hospital.
Jennings was eventually imprisoned in the Spokane County Jail on charges of 1st degree robbery, 2nd degree reckless endangerment, and 1st degree reckless arson and obstruction.
