Lumberton, NC (WMBF) – Lumberton Walmart employees worked with Robson County Public Schools to help students and families in need.
They loaded thousands of items, including clothing and shoes for the district’s homeless students.
According to PRSC, there are nearly 200 homeless students.
“We are honored to be in a position to help,” said Walmart store manager Jon Hendren.
Hendren reached out to Lumber River United Way with an in-kind donation to help homeless people in Robson County. At that time, the organization suggested donating to the district after helping raise funds for students experiencing homelessness.
“The Robson County School District Public Schools are grateful to community partners such as Walmart Supercenters and Lumber River United Way for providing quality education and resources to our students to help them succeed in and out of the classroom. It supports our mission to:” said Jessica Horn, Chief Communications Officer, PRSC.
A portion of the donation will be given to social workers and taken back to school to help homeless children and their families. Other donations are collected at PRSC’s resource centers in Lumberton and Rowland and distributed as needed.
District leaders said donations are another way PSRC and its partners are working to break down the barriers that keep students from attending school and getting a good education.
