Shanghai’s iconic Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street will launch a new batch of shopping coupons on Thursday morning to further boost business recovery during the New Year shopping season.
Recognized as China’s number one commercial street, the pedestrian street offers 30,000 shopping coupons worth RMB 4.5 million (US$645.3 million).
Includes 15,000 RMB 100 coupons sold at RMB 50 and 15,000 RMB 200 coupons at RMB 150.
Customers can purchase discount coupons on the Alipay app’s pedestrian mall mini-program starting at 10 am on Thursday.
Coupons can be used at major local shopping centers such as Shanghai New World Department Store and Shanghai New World Daimaru, as well as over 30 established street eateries.
Popular commercial streets are considered a barometer of Shanghai’s commercial prosperity. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company has issued shopping his coupons several times to win back customers, said an official at Shanghai New World Co, which owns a major shopping center on the street.
The pedestrian mall’s total sales exceeded 10 billion yuan last year, making it one of Shanghai’s most profitable commercial hubs.
