I learned today that police found three card skimmers at two Walmart stores in Greensboro.
Two were found at the Wendover Avenue Walmart register and one was found at Battleground Avenue Walmart.
Two were at the self checkout counter and one was at the tobacco counter checkout.
So far, five skimmers have been found at Walmart stores in Guildford County, including two at High Point.
All devices were installed on the same day, November 18, 2022.
Detective Joseph Khalil said the devices are Bluetooth enabled.
That means the responsible person has to go back to the store to download the stolen information.
Busy stores make such skimmers even harder to find.
“It’s a bluetooth skimmer, but if you go to Walmart and try to scan for bluetooth devices, it will detect hundreds of bluetooth devices. This may work with gas pumps, but if you’re using any other device In a store with a lot of people, I wouldn’t really count on that,” Khalil said.
Walmart says it has additional security measures in place, including daily registration inspections.
