Amarillo, TX (KAMR/KCIT) — Code Blue Warming Station has reopened its doors due to severe winter weather.
Warming stations are available for anyone who needs a warm shelter with their pets.Code Blue hours of operation are 7pm to 7am
Toiletries, cold weather gear and groceries are provided.
Amarillo Housing First Executive Director Virginia Williams Trice said: “We want to make sure they leave with everything they need to survive the winter weather for the day. so that we can fill our stomachs and meet the human needs that we all have.”
Code blue has mobile teams that go to communities to provide winter clothing, blankets and food to the unprotected. Take them to a Code Blue station or to one of our Emergency Housing Partners.
If you see someone in the cold, please text or call Code Blue 806-414-2243 with the person’s whereabouts and a description.
“If there are animals, give me a description of the location,” said Williams Trice. “If they have carts or wagons, or whatever. to engage with them.”
In addition to the resources and shelter provided by Code Blue, the Salvation Army is also open.The Salvation Army opens at 4:30pm… Opens nightly until 7am
Salvation Army guests are provided with fresh linens, dinner and breakfast, and cold weather essentials.
Major Tex Ellis Jr. said: We are open minded for that and were really here for anyone who needed to get out of the cold. It’s open during the day and becomes a shelter like ours at night. ”
The Salvation Army accepts donations from communities such as blankets, clothing, food, and other toiletries to help them all year round.
“Blankets, pillows, hygiene kits, whatever they want to donate will help us be prepared for those who have come to us for help,” Ellis said.
Donations to Code Blue Warming Station can be made at their building at 207 N. Tyler Street. We accept donations of clothing, food, toiletries and money. You can call or text the number to schedule your drop off.
The Salvation Army is also accepting donations, which can be brought to the location.
