Traditionally, shoppers flock to retail stores in the early hours of Black Friday in the throes of doorbuster sales. Things may be different this year as many stores are focusing on online and multi-day sales.
“Retail businesses have been proven to operate safely and follow protocols for months now, but we know some customers are hesitant to go into stores. I don’t want to go to the store,” said Megan Holland, spokesperson for the Michigan Retailers Association.
Holland said retailers are ready to serve customers in a way that makes them feel comfortable, including curbside, home delivery, and in-person shopping.
“In our monthly survey about a month and a half ago, retailers were very optimistic. About holidays. I don’t know what they are thinking now. When[COVID-19]surges like this, people get a little nervous,” she said.
Retailers are also working to extend sales over days or weeks rather than just one day.
For example, Best Buy launched a Black Friday sale online on October 27th. Since then, the store has added new promotions every week. This year, most of the store’s Black Friday sales will be available after his November 22nd, and many coveted items can be pre-ordered online, so head out camping for the best deals. No need to.
Best Buy spokeswoman Claire Larson said, “The promotion has started earlier than ever. By extending the shopping season, we’re giving customers the technology they need for a safer shopping experience without crowds. We are making it possible to put it in, ”he wrote.
Both Target and Home Depot have followed suit, offering deals for almost a month rather than one-day deals.
A Home Depot spokesperson said, “This year’s holidays may be different, but Home Depot is committed to keeping the holiday spirit high and stress-free this season.” One way to do this is by reinventing Black Friday, offering, for the first time ever, season-wide discounts instead of just a one-day shopping event.Starting November 6th, these discounts will: Available both in stores and on homedepot.com through December 2nd.”
Target runs Black Friday sales throughout November, allowing customers to avoid long lines and crowded stores.
Target executive vice president and chief merchandising officer Christina Hennington said at a press conference: release.
