The following message was shared with Amazon employees today.
As part of our annual planning process for 2023, as we communicated in November, leaders across the company will work with their teams to prioritize employee levels, future investments they want to make, and what matters most to customers. I’ve been and the long-term health of our business. This year’s valuation was more difficult given the uncertain economy and rapid hiring over the past few years. Communicated our decision and also announced a voluntary reduction offer for some employees in our People, Experience, Technology (PXT) organization. He also said that the annual planning process has not yet been completed and that he expects more headcount reductions to occur in early 2023.
Today we would like to share the results of these additional reviews, a difficult decision to remove additional roles. Between the reductions we made in November and the reductions we are sharing today, we plan to reduce over 18,000 roles. Some teams are affected. However, the majority of role removals have been done in the Amazon store and his PXT organization.
The S team and I are deeply aware of the difficulty people face in retiring these roles, and we do not take these decisions lightly or underestimate how much they will impact the lives of those affected. I don’t. We are working to support those affected and are offering packages that include separation benefits, transitional health insurance benefits, and outside employment assistance.
We usually wait to communicate these results until we are able to speak to the directly affected people. However, one of our teammates leaked this information to the outside world and decided it would be better to share this news early so they can hear the details directly from me. From January 18th onwards, we will be in contact with affected employees (or employee representative bodies in Europe).
Amazon has navigated uncertain and difficult economies in the past. These changes will help us pursue long-term opportunities with a stronger cost structure. But I’m optimistic that we’ll be creative, resourceful, and crafty at a time when we’re not hiring on a large scale or excluding some roles. goes through stages. They are not in heavy people expansion mode every year. We often talk about the leadership principles of invention and simplicity in the context of creating new products and features. There will be a lot of this going forward in all the businesses we pursue. But the key inventions, problem-solving, and simplifications that lead to understanding what matters most to your customers (and your business), aligning where you spend your resources and time, and finding ways to do more may overlook the importance of Offer your customers a lower cost (and pass the savings on to them in the process). Both of these types of Invent and Simplify are really important.
I want those affected by these cuts to know how much I appreciate my contributions to Amazon and the work I do for our customers. rice field. For those of you who continue to travel with us, we look forward to partnering with you to make your everyday life better and easier, and to continue to innovate to make it happen.
