Victoria’s yellow cabs stop accepting taxi saver coupons
The decision entered into force on January 1
Yellow cabs in Victoria do not accept Taxi Saver coupons.
The voucher provides a 50% subsidy on taxi fares and is available to permanently registered handyDART riders. HandyDART is an accessible shared transportation service for people with disabilities.
This decision went into effect on January 1st.
“Taxi Saver Vouchers are an important service for our customers,” a Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure spokesperson said in a statement. “We are aware that Yellow Cabs in Victoria have told BC Transit they will no longer accept Taxi Saver coupons. In Victoria, Bluebird Cabs, Sydney Taxi, Victoria Taxi, Westshore Taxi and Westwind Taxi. We understand that other taxi companies, such as BC Transit, are participating in the BC Transit program.”
Yellow Cabs in Victoria did not respond to a request for comment.
“We hope that continued communication with BC Transit and Yellow Cab Victoria will resolve this issue,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
Taxi users are entitled to use Taxi Saver Vouchers in Metro Vancouver in accordance with the Taxi Bill of Rights.
“The Taxi Bill of Rights was created in 2007 to address taxi services only in Metro Vancouver,” the statement said. “Taxi companies located elsewhere in British Columbia may adopt any Taxi Bill of Rights when registering with the Passenger Transport Board, but are not required to do so.”
