Pink sauce is heading to your local Walmart, so get ready.
Created by Chef Pea, the viral pepto-colored condiment first went viral on TIkTok in June 2022, attracting views and comments from people around the world. A few months later, the sauce creator partnered with her Dave’s Gourmet to bring her pink-hued product to the “commercial market.”
On January 11, the company announced in a press release that Walmart will be the exclusive retailer of Pink Sauce until July 2023. The product will be available in over 4,300 stores and online starting mid-January.
According to Dave’s Gourmet, people will also be able to purchase vegan and gluten-free versions of the sauce.
Following the announcement, Miami-based private chef and social media influencer Chef Pea shared a video of himself picking up a bottle of his creations at a Walmart store.
Chef Pea first showed off the pink sauce on TikTok on June 11, 2022, showing him dipping chicken tenders into a bowl of fuchsia-colored sauce. It quickly went viral, leaving people wondering what it was made of and how it tasted.
In another video, I shared the ingredients with sunflower seed oil, honey, chilli, garlic and dragon fruit (which is why it’s pink).
With the increased attention, people started raising concerns about food safety.
In July, Chef Pii told TODAY.com that she was fully aware of the concerns and explained why they had paused production and why the sauce continued to change color.
“We had complaints that the pink was too bright, so we changed the color from the audience’s point of view,” said chef Pii. “So we lightened it up a bit. Everything they’re judging, they’re all prototypes.”
She also added, “(Customers’) health is our number one priority. Their trust is our top priority and makes them happy. And serving pink sauce properly is what we do.” is a top priority.”
At the time, TODAY.com contacted the Food and Drug Administration to see if the source was in the process of registering the product. He pointed out that producers need to follow current good manufacturing practices to ensure food safety.
“As always, it is the continuing responsibility of manufacturers to ensure that the food they sell is safe, wholesome and complies with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements. “We take reports of illness and injury seriously,” the spokesperson said. This is most likely caused by an FDA-regulated product. ”
After Chef Pii and Dave’s Gourmet partnered last August, the company said it would help her bring the product to commercial scale “under the required food safety manufacturing guidelines.”
