Three years after the El Paso Walmart shooting that killed 23 people and injured dozens, the suspect will plead guilty to federal charges.
Lawyers representing Patrick Crusius filed a motion for a new arraignment hearing on Saturday. It followed the U.S. Department of Justice’s decision not to seek the death penalty for the 24-year-old.
“Defendant notifies the Court of its intention to file a guilty plea against the pending indictment,” the filing said.
The court made no other announcements. A jury trial date is set for him a year from now.
Crusius, an accused gunslinger, faces 23 hate crime deaths, 23 firearm violent crimes, 22 hate crime murders, and 22 firearm charges. Firearms during violent crimes.
Crusius allegedly drove more than nine hours from Allen to El Paso to “stop a Hispanic invasion” of Texas, according to law enforcement. The August 3, 2019 event was the largest massacre targeting Hispanics in recent times.
