Lakewood — New York Walmart stores will soon go paperless.
A sign at the entrance to Lakewood Walmart states that paper shopping bags are used. “Go away” As of Wednesday, January 18. “Don’t forget to bring your own bag or buy at the store” I read the signature.
Walmart plans to go paperless at all of its stores in the state. A message posted in a note on his Facebook page at Olean Walmart said: “Beginning January 18, 2023, our New York stores will be bagless.
The move follows a New York state law that went into effect in 2020 banning single-use plastic bags. Specifically, the law prohibited many types of businesses from distributing thin plastic bags that clog landfills, tangle in trees, and accumulate in lakes and oceans.
Single-use paper bags are still allowed in New York, but counties have the option to impose a 5-cent fee.
